wonderful toy for 3-year old!

This was great! My daughter got it when she was about three. In about

three days she had learned the oceans and continents and I never once

had sat down with her to go over them. She loves the animals, so she'd

sit with it for half an hour at a time completing engrossed. Now my 1 and

a half year old son has it, and he's crazy about it, but his rough handling has ruined a lot of the sensors. Some sensors don't work now and

some are located on the wrong spot. Wish it were more robust.
Awesome Learning Toy

I bought this toy for my 5 year old son. He loves it and plays with it OFTEN. He spends time alone with the toy listening to the information and truly learning new things. He is always proud to come and tell his father or I the new things he has discovered on his globe. My other sons play with the toy also, and I am EXTREMELY impressed with it's durability. My 2 and 3 year olds have dropped it down the steps, carried it around the house by the pen and it still works "good as new". I love this toy and plan to purchase a more age appropriate globe for him over the next several years.
Intro to Geography

My 2 year old son loves this toy. It teaches the continents, has a music feature highlighting the type of music of each continent but the feature that he likes best is the animals. It gives a brief intro to numerous animals and shows him what continent that animal is located as well as the noise that animal makes. Even though the manufacturer recommended age is 3 years old, I knew he would be able to play with it (with little assistance). I know others have said that it wasn't what they expected because it only teaches the continents but I think it's a great first introduction to geography.
Not bad

We bought this globe for our 4 year old daughter's birthday. It is a little below her skills. Our 2 year old gets better use out of it. It has a lot of great features and does teach the kids a lot about animals and different parts of the world. But does not teach much about the continents themselves.

This is a reat teaching aid. I purchased it for my 3 year old grandson but I'll be bringing it to Kindergarten with me! I'm a 36 year Kdg. teacher and this is a great teaching aid.
Great Globe!

I gave this to my godson for his 4th birthday and he hasn't put it down since. He enjoys learning about all the animals and different places around the world! I would recommend this to anyone...even adults...I had great fun with it to!

We bought this for my three-year-old and although I don't know that it's his favorite toy he loves the pictures and the talking. It's a fun toy with quite a bit of info. Nice for learning the basics of the world we live in.
Great learning toy

I recently purchased the Jr. Globe Explorer for my 2 year old. He loves it and independently plays with it for 20-30 minutes at a time. It's easy for a 2 year old to use. It seems it will be a toy that is used for quite a few more years. As he gets older he can play the more challenging games. I am very happy with this purchase.

Great for young kids

Wonderful for young kids...enough to peak their interest and keep them learning and asking questions. Not to be used as a resource. Gets you involved with the child and the learning process

My 4 years old LOVES to play with this globe and has been learning a lot from it. Yes, it doesn't say much about countries but let's not forget this is the JR version. I think it is great that they give emphasis in animals since kids like them. Also, all different languages and typical music that it includes. I think it is great that kids learn the continents at least they are aware that USA is not in this world alone. PULEASE... they didn't pay for someone's furniture to be cleaned... Don't get me wrong but this person must go around the world a bit. People have to know how to take care of themselves for a change instead of blaming someone else everytime. Gosh!
I recommend this toy. This is not a Geography professor substitue just a way to get kids interested in other areas and cultures. I suppose the more advanced version may bring the countries. I don't know. I am sure there is only so much they can fit inside this toy and as parents we can't expect to relay on a toy to teach our kids everything they need to know. We think this toy is awesome.
Watch out for stains on furniture

The toy has little rubber feet on the bottom which will leave little purple circle shaped stains on wood furniture. My son's brand new furniture was damaged and Leap Frog will not pay to have it cleaned. They were aware of the situation, however, they did not issue a recall. They simply changed the rubber feet on the toy for the new production runs, but they left all of the old ones on the store shelves. So which one will you get - the new or the old? This toy isn't worth the trouble. Leap Frogs' customer (dis)service is horrible. I will never buy another leap frog toy again. Watch out for this company - all they care about is making a buck.
BETTER THEN I THOUGHT

When my brother bought this for my 3 year old daughter I thought he had wasted his money, there was no way my daughter was going to pay attention to this globe. I was wrong! My daughter loves it and within 5 minutes she was telling me about the Statue of Liberty and the Great Wall of China. She and I love it so much that I am buying one for my neice's birthday present.
A complete waste of money!

Can't believe Leap Frog, a name associated w/great, educational products would put out such a junker of a product. Doesn't teach even what the United States are, or where they are, Mexico? Don't know where that is. Don't even think about educating your child about where they live and the states, no states even defined, or rivers, or lakes, or mountains, or landmarks. Need I say more. I seriously wish Leap Frog would give me a refund. My mom is really bummed because she's the one who got it for my dd. She was so excited about getting this, "really cool globe" and it's just collecting dust. Big, huge, waste of money....and not cheap, I might add.
Cartoon Globe, Dont Buy It

Review Date: January 12, 2004

The Globe has no countries, only continents, no rivers, not even Hawaii (important for American kids), you cant even see the shape of England because of the cartoon of Big Ben over the UK. The information is mainly about animals that live on the continents, and not too interesting facts about them either. The music IS NOT really from the countries of regions its supposed to be from. The globe cannot be rotated to see the South Pole adequately. My daughters first question was 'Where is Germany?' (because we live there) but its not on the globe, then 'Where is Washington?' (where her grandparents live) also not on the globe. My daughter loves globes, maps, time zones, etc but this toy is uninteresting to her and of little educational value. However my 21 month old likes to tough the elephant with the pen to make it roar.
Great purchase (noise volume should be stuck at low)

My four year old daughter loves this globe. I bought it a few months ago and she still keeps it out all the time. It's one of the few toys I don't rotate. She's not interested in learning her alphabet by sight, but this sparks her interest.
A waste of Money...Just buy the regular model

This toy identifies the names of the continents and oceans...that's it. There are no individual countries on the globe. The regular Explorer globe for the bigger kids is a much better value for your money. It does cost a bit more, but is worth every penny. My two year old can play and learn with it, and it will serve her well for many years to come.

If you are looking for something your child can enjoy for many years to come, your best bet is to avoid this model, and buy the regular Explorer globe.

Excited to learn

My 3yr old son plays with this toy more than any other toy he has. He gets so excited when he shows his Dad and I the new things that he has learned from the globe--he's even taught us a few new things! It has even taught him to say things in other languages which he seems to like very much. He has also learned the placement in relation to one another and names of the different continents. It really is a wonderful learning toy and I highly recomend it (also very durable, my son's nick-name is distruct-o boy! LOL!).
Kids like it, but I'm disappointed

Like another reviewer, I'm a little disappointed at the level of information provided by this toy. It depicts continents and oceans, but no individual countries. Perhaps I expected too much, but I was hoping that my kids would be able to tap on a country and hear information about it and perhaps a few words in the native language or the music of the national anthem. But nope. It's mostly animals. I have to admit that my kids (ages 3 and 18 months) really like it. I just wanted it to be more than it is.

And take my rating on the durability with a grain of salt. We've only had it for 3 weeks, so I have no idea. But it seems well constructed.

Great Globe!

My son got this for Christmas. Not only does he like it...the rest of the family does too.
